Anaheim Approves New Senior Affordable Housing

The City of Anaheim has announced that it plans to buy the Sandman Motel on Lincoln Avenue for the development of a new 54-unit senior affordable housing community by Innovative Housing Opportunities (IHO). Named El Verano (the summer), this proposed development will be the city’s first affordable senior community in 10 years. IHO together with its design team have proposed a high-quality, beautifully appointed Spanish-style 3-story residence which will include outstanding architectural and landscape design spaces with a distinct personality for the site. The property is located adjacent to another vibrant community developed in partnership with IHO, Rockwood Apartments (targeting very-low and extremely low income families, mentally ill households, and formerly homeless households). El Verano which is to be built and operated by IHO, is a vital community benefit project which will offer targeted services and programs responsive to the needs of both the residents and staff. The project encourages social wellness and harmony to complement the current community revitalization efforts.
