IRVINE, CA – April 17, 2018
Innovative Housing Opportunities (IHO), a nonprofit developer of high-quality affordable housing, supportive services and economic empowerment programs, has announced the appointment of Rochelle Mills as its next President and Chief Executive Officer.
“After a comprehensive search process, the Board is confident that Rochelle is the best choice as IHO’s next CEO to lead the company into the future. Together with the Committee Advisors and staff, we know that in her new role as CEO, Rochelle will lead with inspiration and vision, making an even greater social impact.” stated Avi Shah, IHO’s Board Chair.
Mills, who served as IHO’s Vice President of Development and Programs, has been an integral team member for the past twelve of the organization’s forty-two year legacy of developing, advocating for, and preserving affordable housing. Mills has led new project and program development, implemented initiatives resulting in portfolio expansion, built strategic partnerships and opportunities, and launched IHO’s Economic Self-Reliance program. She represents the organization in legislative, policy and advocacy matters relating to affordable housing, community development, and housing tax credit issues.
Mills brings a passion for excellence in affordable housing, and building and revitalizing families and communities. She has 30 years of experience in architecture, design and community development. Mills was appointed to serve two terms on the South Los Angeles Area Planning Commission and the Crenshaw Community Design Review Board. She served as President of the Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH), member of the LA Metro Art Advisory Committee, and currently serves on the Kennedy Commission and the California Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (Cal-ALHFA) Boards of Directors. In 2017, Mills received a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Anaheim for her years of service with IHO and involvement in the community.
“When I speak with our residents, I understand that IHO’s vision of housing and community development has to be different than our peers,” said Mills. “IHO is poised to be an important player in a highly dynamic environment. With so much change and uncertainty, it is crucial that we implement better, more creative solutions to the housing crisis and I’m excited to continue work with the Board, Advisors and our talented staff to take IHO to the next level.”
IHO is a hands-on, mission driven, organization that values and utilizes a holistic and collaborative approach to catalytic housing and community development. IHO partners with cities, residents and other stakeholders to create community impact serving low to moderate-income families, seniors, veterans, and those who have experienced homelessness, mental health challenges, physical, and developmental disabilities.
